BAD AXE, MI -- Five area students have recently been selected by the Rapes Board of Trustees to be added to the elite list of Anthony L. Rapes Memorial Scholarship winners. Local students receiving the $500 scholarship for the 2014-15 year are: Raquel Iseler, Joseph Lipskey, Emma Maust, Austin Rice and Travis Roestel.

Raquel Iseler is the daughter of Robert and Laticia Iseler of Port Hope.Raquel will be attending Michigan State University majoring in Agribusiness Management.She attends North Huron High School; is actively involved in 4-H and FFA activities, as well as extracurricular community activities and has received many awards.

Joseph Lipskey is the son of Dale and Janet Lipskey of Minden City.He will be attending Baker College majoring in Diesel Technology.Joseph attends Ubly Community High School and is actively involved with school, 4-H and FFA activities, as well as many extracurricular community activities. Joseph has also received numerous awards.

Emma Maust is the daughter of Brent and Emily Maust of Bay Port.She will be attending Dordt College majoring in Animal Science.She attends Laker High School and is very involved with school and community activities, as well as FFA and 4-H activities.Emma has received many awards.

Austin Rice is the son of Tim and Cathy Rice of Kinde.He plans to attend Michigan State University majoring in Agriculture Industries.Austin attends North Huron High School where he is very active in school, extracurricular, community and church activities.Austin has also received numerous awards.

Travis Roestel is the son of Todd and Gretchen Roestel of Pigeon. He plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University majoring in Crop and Soil Science.Travis attends Laker High School where he is actively involved in FFA and sports.Travis has also received several awards.

The Anthony L. Rapes Board of Trustees is pleased to award scholarships to these outstanding individuals who are continuing their education in an agricultural area.The scholarships are sponsored by the Anthony L. Rapes Memorial Scholarship Fund.Anthony L."Tony" Rapes was an agricultural agent in Huron County with Michigan State University Extension for 15 years until the time of his death in 1980.The scholarship has awarded $54,900 since 1981 to Huron County young people pursuing an occupation in agriculture.
