BIRCH RUN, MI -- Sonja Lapak of Birch Run, MI, recently joined the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee (MSPC) staff as its fulltime communication director.
Sonja earned her Bachelor of Science degree from MSU’s College of Ag and Natural Resources with a major in animal science. She has worked for the Department of Animal Science, the Genesee Conservation District as a MAEAP technician, and the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development as a dairy industry field scientist. Through these experiences, she found that the communication aspect of agriculture is where her passion lies.
Sonja’s position with MSPC will focus on communication to the soybean farmers and consumers. She will develop and deliver an integrated communication program for MSPC and will spearhead our social media needs, press releases and play a big role in keeping our website fresh. She’ll also help significantly with editing our publications and working with our farmers to help them be better communicators on behalf of agriculture.
Sonja grew up with a passion for agriculture, fostered by learning about farming from an early age. Her grandparents and uncles farm in Birch Run, raising soybeans and corn.
Additionally, she’s involved with Genesee County Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer Committee and is a Promotion and Education Committee member.
