COLDWATER, MI -- The Andersons of Litchfield hosted their annual field day on Aug. 23 at the Branch Area Career Center (BACC) on the Agronomic Land Lab located to the east of the school. The Agriculture program students, along with Farm Manager Bill Post, maintain the twelve acres of test plots for the seed company.
General Manager Kirk Moyer shared the reason for the event. “We want to thank our customers for supporting us,” Moyer said. “We will be looking at the summer plots today. The fall harvests will present us with some information about the various corn and soybean seeds which we will share with the farmers during the winter meeting.”
Three plot stations were set up within the fields and hosted different presentations for the attendees to glean information from. Marketing crops, secrets for soybean success, and the ever popular topic weather were the subjects expounded upon during the daylong program. Several agricultural-based vendors were present with information to share with the farmers.
“We have had a good turnout of 160-170 people today,” Moyer said. “Of course the weather helped out.”
The company provided a catered lunch for the participants with North Adams Coffee Shop serving the meal. Mr. Bratz donated additional meat for the attendees to enjoy.
The Andersons have been working with the BACC program for several years, planting small plots for seed testing of corn and soybeans. The plots consist of about 2-3 acres which are observed and recorded for future reference.
