Conference to focus on performance management

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN -- Agribusiness professionals will improve their understanding of performance management to make their operations more productive by attending the National Conference for Agribusiness Nov. 10-11 at Purdue University.

The theme of this year's conference is "People - Performance - Productivity." Purdue faculty and industry guest speakers will discuss information from Purdue's first survey of agribusiness managers regarding their performance management practices.

"There is nothing more essential to the success of the 21st-century food and agribusiness firm than a robust talent management strategy that reflects the myriad demographic, social, political and technological factors shaping our world," said Jay Akridge, Glenn W. Sample Dean of the College of Agriculture, and a speaker at the conference. "We look forward to exploring the burning questions in this critical area with managers from across the country."

The conference will examine several key topics from the survey data, including practical steps that companies can take to improve the way they manage their people.

The agenda includes topics and sessions built around "the art and science of performance management," said Michael Gunderson, associate professor and associate director of research at the Center for Food and Agricultural Business, the conference organizer.

"The faculty will lead sessions and share insights found in the survey results, including benchmarks for performance management in agriculture, best practices for managing people and what that means for agribusiness managers," Gunderson said.

The conference will be of interest to managers and executives from such organizations as agricultural retailers, farm equipment manufacturers and dealers, retail seed companies and distributors, crop protection companies, animal health and nutrition companies, and food product manufacturers and processors.
