Michigan bull evaluation sale seeks nominations

OKEMOS, MI -- The Michigan Cattlemen's Association/Michigan State University Bull Evaluation is now accepting nominations for the 2015-16 program. The policies and nomination form are available at or by contacting the Michigan Cattlemen's Association at 517-347-8117 (2145 University Park Dr., Ste. 300, Okemos, MI 48864). The nomination deadline is September 1st.

The MCA/MSU Bull Evaluation Program provides efficient and effective management and facilities for bull development and has three main objectives:(1) to promote performance evaluation of beef cattle and serve as an educational tool to acquaint producers with its overall value, (2) to provide a common environment for evaluating young bulls for rate of gain, soundness and body composition, and (3) to aid beef producers in obtaining superior bulls that have been evaluated for growth, breeding and structural soundness and carcass merit.

To be eligible for nomination, bulls must be born between September 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015; and originate from a calf crop that has been enrolled under the performance program of the breeders' respective breed.Bulls that complete the evaluation and achieve all sale requirements will be offered for sale on March 19, 2016.This year's sale will feature intensified use of video and online marketing opportunities.

Additional consignor information is available at, such as documents on vaccine products that meet entry requirements, testing cattle for persistent BVD infection, controlling bovine coccidiosis, and controlling bovine papillomas.Nomination forms and the $200 nomination fee must be postmarked by September 1, 2015 to reserve a space.
