FFM offers food, fun at end-of-summer events

FRANKENMUTH, MI -- The Frankenmuth Farmers Market (FFM) is excited to announce three upcoming events that serve as fundraisers focused on food and fun!  Sept. 8 will bring ‘50s Fun Night featuring Grease at dusk and meals served carhop style beginning at 6 p.m.  On Sept. 20, the Market presents its signature annual Feast of the Harvest Moon at 6 p.m.  This is the first time these events are taking place following the completion of the Market’s new $2.3 million building and campus.  Tickets for the Feast of the Harvest Moon are on sale now at the Market or by contacting or (989) 295-9766.

On Thursday, Sept. 8, the Market will host a ‘50s Fun Night featuring Grease and meals served carhop style courtesy of Harvey’s Grill & Bar of Saginaw and Bay City.  A classic American meal sold at this drive-in type event will feature premium Angus beef burgers, fries and ice cream floats starting at 6 p.m.  At dusk, the favorite ‘50s film Grease will be shown outside in the Market’s Pavilion on a large 20’ screen.  The movie is $2 to view.  This occurs the night before Frankenmuth’s hugely popular Auto Fest as old-fashioned and antique cars cruise around town to be seen.

On Sept. 20 beginning at 6 p.m., the Market presents its seventh annual signature fundraising dinner, the Feast of the Harvest Moon.  The occasion is held in observance of the Harvest Moon, the full moon nearest the fall equinox, which illuminates fields late into the night so farmers can reap their crops.  Located for the first time ever at the Market’s new building, the event theme is “reALLy local” -- really all local, all really local -- featuring local foods champion Chef Josh Schaeding of Hemlock’s Maple Grille.  His restaurant has earned a most respected reputation and devoted following for cooking and serving only what is in season and grown on property.  True to his trade, Chef Schaeding will visit the Market before the event to see what is available, and from there he will source and plan the multiple-course menu that will be served family-style in the Gathering Barn with beverage pairings.  The Artisans Kitchen will be used to prepare the meal.  Tickets are $100 per person, limited to 100 guests.  The evening will also feature an auction and accompaniment by harpist Maiya Kaufman.  This is the first public dinner to be hosted in the Market’s Gathering Barn.  Sponsorship opportunities are available.
