Indiana FFA to hold annual auction

Presenting the opportunity for the ag industry to support Indiana FFA, the annual Indiana FFA Scholarship Auction will be held January 17th and 18th at the 28th Annual Fort Wayne Farm Show at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

The auction will be held at 1 pm on both days in the lobby of the trade show with items donated from trade show vendors and supporters.

“The auction began several years ago at the Fort Wayne Farm Show as a way to partner with companies in the northeast part of the state where we have a large number of FFA chapters,” explained Lisa Chaudion, Executive Director of the Indiana FFA Foundation. At the suggestion of Tradexpos, the farm show management, the first FFA auction was a huge success and has been a mainstay at the show ever since.

“Every year that we’ve held the auction it’s grown and last year we raised over $21,000 to benefit the Indiana FFA program,” commented Chaudion.

Area businesses and trade show exhibitors donate all types and kinds of items for the auction.

The long list of donations in the past have included seed, chemicals, equipment, hotel and event packages, gift baskets and everything to do with agriculture. Last year over 200 donations were included in the auction offering.

“We receive donations from not only those participating as vendors at the show but supporters that want to help by donating items to the auction.” Chaudion said

The dollars raised from the benefit auction will help Indiana FFA enhance leadership development within their programs across the state as well as build more scholarships for students to be able to attend many of their statewide camps and conferences.

"Indiana FFA has been instrumental in developing strong young leaders who have become a cornerstone of the success Indiana has had in becoming a corporate leader in the field of agriculture and agribusiness.

"And we want to continue that legacy.  Indiana FFA Foundation has been supporting Indiana FFA for over 50 years,” commented Chaudion.

While the auction proceeds to into a general fund, one area that has quadrupled in demand is the scholarship need for attending conferences and camps.  Chaudion commented, “We have summer camps and conferences throughout the year and we are finding more and more students are limited in coming to camp so we open up this opportunity for those students who may not be able to afford to come a camp otherwise.”

The Indiana FFA State Officers help with the auction including asking for donations from the exhibitors. Local Chapters including Woodland and Heritage FFA work with show organizers by assisting handing out materials at the doors during the show.

The auction items will be displayed on tables in the main entrance of the coliseum and the auction will be held there as well.  The sale will begin at 1 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday and donations will be accepted up until the time of the auction.  In addition, the Indiana FFA will have a booth at the show to field questions about the program.

Chaudion added, “On behalf of the Indiana FFA Foundation we would like to thank everyone for their support of the sale and the FFA program.”
