June webinar focuses on hoof health

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN – The Hoard’s Dairyman monthly webinar for June, “Supervise hoof health with a ‘no lameness tolerance policy,’” will be held Monday, June 11 (12 p.m. – 1 p.m. CDT). Karl Burgi, Dairyland Hoof Care Institute, will be the featured presenter.
Lameness affects nearly one out of every four dairy cows worldwide. It deteriorates the health and wellness of animals and causes significant economic losses. In the webinar, Burgi will address factors causing lameness, such as trimming errors, sole ulcers, white line lesions and digital dermatitis. The webinar concludes with an action plan.
Participants can expect to learn the following from the webinar:
• How to recognize the five main hoof lesions, their causes and best practice prevention.
• How to identify incorrect hoof trimming procedures and why these may be responsible for an increase in chronic claw horn lesion lameness.
• How to properly manage infectious hoof diseases and reduce hoof bath chemical expenses while benefiting the bottom line.
Burgi is a hoof care provider, hoof health consultant and instructor based in Baraboo, Wisconsin. He travels throughout the world teaching hoof health and lameness prevention, and consults with dairy producers to maximize hoof health.
